In his preface he wrote:
“I had been to Lhasa some twenty years ago. I remained there for seven years. Upon returning home i have been able to turn my reminiscences of those periods into a contour of a book, garnishing it with a bit of literary embellishment. All along these long fifteen years I have been compiling materials, which i wrote hauntingly during my three-term incarcerations about the indelible incidences i cherish throughout my stay in the capital of Tibet.
